Jeanette Houmayune is a Counsellor and Family Therapist. She works with couples as well as young adults and professionals facing acute stress and mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, addictions, grief and post-traumatic stress disorder. She sees herself as a facilitator, guiding her clients through the process of goal-setting and committing to sustainable positive changes, one step at a time. She aims to empower them in a solution-focused journey with systemic family therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy and hypnotherapy, amongst other therapeutic approaches. As a first-generation Singaporean, she is fluent in English and Tamil, and able to understand basic Malay, Chinese and French.
Jeanette is a Registered Counsellor and Clinical Member of the Singapore Association for Counselling and holds a Master’s Degree in Professional Counselling (specialising in Family Therapy) from the Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. She is a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist (Individual), recognized by the Trauma Institute International, and trained in Multi-channel Eye Movement Integration and Brain-Switch 2.0: Resolving Trauma and Emotion-based Issues. She has also completed Gottman Method of Clinical Couples Therapy (Levels 1 & 2), Basic Intensive Training in Choice Theory and Reality Therapy with William Glasser International and Mindfulness Foundation Course with Brahm Centre. She is also a 5-PATH®️ Hypnotist and 7th Path Self-Hypnosis®️ Teacher of the Basic and Advanced Recognitions.
Prior to this, Jeanette was an award-winning Senior Lecturer and student counsellor at Ngee Ann Polytechnic for more than 10 years, and managed a training department at the National Council of Social Service. She began her career as an auditor with a Big 4 international accounting firm and was a Chartered Accountant for over 20 years. She holds the Advanced Certificate in Training & Assessment, as well as the Knowdell™ Career Advisor certification for education and career guidance coaching. She enjoys training and facilitation and has engaged board members, management and staff of various multi-national corporations and social service agencies in topics related to Mental Wellness, Workplace Harassment and Bullying, Ego-States Analysis for Effective Workplace Communication as well as Career Values and Motivated Skills Assessment.
Jeanette is a keen volunteer and works with FITRAH, HealthServe as well as Angel Hearts to support the mental health of justice-involved individuals, migrant workers as well as mothers who have experienced pregnancy losses. She also enjoys reading, cycling and trail-walking with her husband and two teenage sons.
